Overview Of The Gauge Block

Overview Of The Gauge Block Blog
The gauge block is an important tool that is indispensable in the mechanical field. Because it is used as a benchmark to re-calibrate measuring devices and instruments or machining parts.

1. Definition and function of the gauge block

The gauge block has a rectangular shape with flat and parallel sides, achieving high accuracy in size and very high surface gloss. A gauge block includes many gauge with different sizes in the box.

Gauge block have many applications, but most importantly, applications in measurement mechanical. The gauge block is often used to measure slots on details when machined by CNC machines. Especially, it is also used as a gauge to re-check the tolerance of caliper, watch, panme, ... Use as a gauge for checking and marking measuring tools. It can be said that the gauge block is a basic measure of measuring other measuring instruments.

The gauge block is extremely diverse with many different materials such as stainless steel, ceramic porcelain .... Bring more options for users when there is a need to use the template.

In addition, the gauge in the gauge block set can be assembled together to create a new sized model, meeting many users' measurement needs.

2. How to use the gauge block

In order to effectively use the calibration model of the measuring device, it is recommended to use specialized gloves and a clean, non-silk cloth to clean the sample, especially the measuring surface. When you measure, you should not twist strongly, rubbing the sample with measuring device, calibrating because this will cause scratches to the sample surface as well as for the measuring function of the measuring device.

And you can create any size greater than the length of the gauge block piece by assembling the sample pieces together. A gauge block of samples will have from 7 to 122 pieces of sample.

3. The levels of the gauge block

The gauge are manufactured according to the exact levels (levels). The exact levels with the reduced accuracy level: level 00; k; 0; 1; 2. The gauge level 0 and level K measured by the absolute interference method and for the lower order samples will be measured by comparison method with the level 00 / k model by comparison measuring device.

In particular, each gauge level will be applied as follows:

- The K-level gauge is the measurement model with the smallest error of flatness and parallelism. A typical K-level gauge is a standard for checking the accuracy of samples for calibration or research. In addition, the K-level gauge is also used to check the accuracy of gauges used in processing workshops, to check the accuracy of the gauge used for the purpose of inspecting machining or equipment details. Measure and check the accuracy of measuring instruments. Many applications in laboratories.

- The gauge level 0 is also used to check the accuracy of the gauges used in processing workshops, check the accuracy of the models used for the purpose of checking the accuracy of the processing details or Testing measuring equipment and also used to check the accuracy of measuring instruments and devices. When using level 0 template, you can also use it to calibrate measuring device tools. Often used in laboratories.

- The gauge level 1 gauge is often used to meet the requirements of precision testing of measuring devices, instruments or parts, mechanical tools. Gauge level 1 models serve as a tool for extremely accurate calibration. Often used in laboratories or in factories.

- The gauge level 2 can also be used to measure and fabricate mechanical tools and equipment. The gauge level 2 are often used in factories. Effective support for product inspection needs in processing factories.

4. How to preserve the gauge block

Preservation the gauge block can extending time work. After using the gauge blocks need to be lubricated with oil or grease (Vaselin with no acid) to protect against corrosion. In particular, the gauge are made of steel not to stick together for longer than 8 hours because otherwise they will be cold welded. The gauge block must be placed in a dry place with no hot sun and little change in temperature.

Hopefully this article will help you can choose right gauge block!
